Layering for Winter Adventures with Backcountry

Despite being ready for spring, we are trying to fully enjoy and embrace the winter weather. This weekend we got the chance to head up to one of our favorite trails and go snowshoeing. We had the best time seeing it in a new perspective. I stayed warm and toasty on our adventure thanks to my new gear from Backcountry!

I’ve never been the biggest fan of winter as I hate being cold. I have to say though that the right gear changes EVERYTHING. E and I have had this snowshoe date planned for almost a month now and I’ve been really looking forward to it. I even promised him that I would not back out no matter the temps. There was a very real possibility that it could be in the single digits and I knew I had to be prepared.

I ended up spending some time on Backcountry.com and finding everything I would need for our winter outing. They have so many options to choose from for all sorts of winter outdoor activities. They also carry some of my all time favorite brands, from Patagonia and North Face to Free People and Sorel. This makes dressing for a winter adventure effortless, practical and fashionable!

Even though the temps dropped this week, we got lucky and Saturday was beautiful! Despite some rain in the morning, the day cleared up, blue skies were poking through the clouds and it was in the low 40’s. I knew I needed to be practical with my outfit and made sure to really layer up. I even brought this coat just in case, but ended up leaving it in the car.

Snowshoeing is actually a great workout! I ended up shedding layers as we made our way along the trail. My Patagonia Dusty Mesa Parka was the real MVP. It kept me toasty warm until I started working up a sweat. I absolutely love the length of this parka and how warm it is! It’s perfect for layering too, and if I had needed it, I would have easily been able to put it under my down parka. To top it all off, it’s pretty cute too! I love that it’s a practical version of the trendy teddy bear jacket!

Once we really started trekking through the mountains, I was thankful for my base layers. This pullover and fleece lined leggings were comfortable and easy to move in. This Patagonia Micro D Snap-T Fleece Pullover is incredibly soft and light-weight but still very warm. I had just a thin thermal long sleeve under it and felt perfectly content.

The best part about this pullover is the snap collar that allows you to vent if needed, and the binding at the cuffs and hem to seal out any drafts. I always size up to a medium in my Patagonia pullovers for layering purposes. I’m wearing a medium in this one!

I’m convinced that every girl who encounters snow needs a pair of Sorel boots! If you know me, you know I swear by this brand and have multiple pairs. I’ve had the Joan of Arctic boots for 2 years now and LOVE them! I love the height, so snow doesn’t get in the top, and the cute fur detailing. They are sturdy, have great traction and are really very comfortable!

They come in a bunch of different colors and are a timeless boot that you will have for years! I sized up a half size so I could wear thick socks with them!

We rented our snowshoes, but Backcountry has a HUGE selection to choose from! They have a wide variety of colors, price ranges and accessories if you are ready to take on this winter activity. You can even outfit the whole fam!

Gifts to Stay Warm With Backcountry

Tis’ the season to bundle up! Winter has arrived and it’s time to layer up. Living in the Pacific Northwest, winters can be brutal. The temps drop and it’s rare that I leave the house without looking like a snowman, bundled from head to toe. This year, Christmas came early. E and I both needed new winter gear that was equal parts warm and stylish. We found exactly what we were looking for at Backcountry!

For the past few years, we have shopped Backcountry for all our outerwear needs. They have a huge selection of boots, jackets, scarves and hats, as well as fashionable lifestyle pieces for everyday! They carry our favorite brands, like North Face, Patagonia, Sorel, Marmot and even Free People. There is something for everyone and it makes taking on the winter chill AND your Christmas shopping list a lot easier!

With Christmas just days away…have you finished your shopping? Check out E and I’s top picks for gifts to stay warm below!

As much as I enjoy the snow, I hate being cold! The North Face Down Sierra Hooded Parka is what any girl who hates the cold dreams of! It’s insulated, making it extremely warm, and perfect for the girl on the go! The North Face Campshire 2.0 Hooded Pullover Fleece makes for a super cozy gift! It’s sherpa fabric is fuzzy and soft and traps body heat meaning you are toasty warm! Backcountry also has a huge selection of beanies and mittens that make great stocking stuffers! I love this beanie and these mittens because they slightly match. They would make a great gift set for any girl in your life!

E isn’t bothered by the cold as much as I am, and prefers lighter, easy to move in layers. The North Face Down Sierra Snap Jacket was my gift to him. He loves the modern look. It can be worn out in the snow, or paired casually over street clothes. The North Face Gordon Lyons Full-Zip Hoodie is a great gift for any man in your life! We got one for my dad, father-in-law and brother last year and they wear them almost year round. They are light, but still cozy and great zip up fleeces for layering.

At the very top of both of our winter wear gift lists are Sorel Boots. I got my first pair a few years ago, and now own multiple pairs. We figured it was time to get E a pair and now he is hooked! Sorel boots are a MUST for anyone ready to take on ice and snow in the winter.

The Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge boots are my favorite. The wedge gives it a trendy, modern look, but that doesn’t mean they lack stability. They are extremely comfortable, warm, easy to walk in and have amazing traction. I love wearing mine in the classroom in the winter too!

E’s Sorel picks are the Cheyanne Metro Lace Up boot. Since getting them, he has gone on and on about how comfortable they are and a total game changer in the snow. They are durable and are a classic that won’t be going out of style any time soon!

Looking for a last minute gift or still need to cross off everyone on your list? Then head over to Backcountry! Get your order in time for Christmas with FREE 2-day shipping if you spend over $50! Layering from Fall to Winter with Backcountry

Living in the Pacific Northwest, we get to fully experience all 4 seasons. It’s one of the reasons I love most about living in our small town. Fall transitions to winter slowly, but the temperatures can be a little sporadic during this time. I’ve learned the key is layering and investing in pieces that can taken from one season to the next, and always find what I need at Backcountry!

For the past few years, I have purchased all my outerwear at Backcountry. They have SO many options when it comes to boots, jackets, scarves, hats and even fashionable lifestyle pieces that can be worn everyday! Backcountry carries all of my favorite brands, from Patagonia and North Face to Free People and Sorel. This makes layering up for chilly weather easy, practical and fashionable!

We live just minutes away from the mountains and have been doing a bit of exploring this fall. Each time we head out for a little weekend day date, I’ve been layering up as I never know where we are going to end up! Last weekend, we had plans to get lunch and do a little shopping in the the nearby town of Leavenworth, but ended up taking the scenic route and stopping to explore. We discovered a bridge that led to a hiking path and couldn’t stop ourselves from heading up the mountain!

In that moment, I was so thankful I was wearing my Patagonia Prairie Dawn Insulated Parka. I was drawn to this jacket for the color and longer length. I ended up being even more surprised by how warm and cozy it is! It’s sherpa lined and made of durable canvas. It’s great for everyday, or an outdoor adventure.

I had thoughtfully topped off my outfit with warm accessories before leaving, because I knew we could end up spending some time outside. It’s rare that I leave the house this time of year without a beanie, and this Columbia Winter Blur Pom Pom Beanie is cute AND warm. Lined with micro-fleece, this is an extremely cozy and practical option. My Pistil Bray Scarf would make a great gift for anyone living in a cold climate. It’s another practical piece, but the print is so much fun and brightens up any neutral outfit.

Sorel boots are a MUST for anyone ready to take on ice and snow in the winter. I got the Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge II Shearling Boot last year and was so impressed, I ended up purchasing the Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge II Cozy Boot this year. While these are wedge boots, they are extremely comfortable, easy to walk in, warm and toasty AND have amazing traction! We had multiple ice storms last year and I never had any issues getting around in my Sorel’s! During this outing, I had to balance on logs and climb over rocks. I had no trouble maneuvering over the terrain!

My sweater and jeans are both Free People pieces found at Backcountry! I was so excited to discover one of my all time favorite brands and that I could make Backcountry a one stop shop for my fall and winter layering needs! The Free People Angelic Pullover is the coziest oversized sweater. I size down in this brand because it runs oversized. This sweater is long enough to wear with leggings, which I love! My jeans are the Free People Raw High Rise Jegging, and so comfortable! Unlike the sweater, these run a bit small, so size up!
