Fall Essentials – My Must Have Neutrals

Today’s post is in collaboration with Nordstrom. All opinions are my own!

 T-shirt // Cardigan // Distressed Denim // Mules // Bag

Happy Thursday friends! Yesterday was my first day back in the classroom! As much as I loved it, I forget how totally exhausted I am after being back with the kiddos! I have the greatest group this year and know it’s going to be a great school year!

The start of school definitely means fall is ALMOST here! While it’s still warm, there is a crispness in the air, the leaves are slowly starting to turn and it’s almost sweater weather! I’ve been stocking up on new fall pieces that I can wear now and transition into cooler weather! Free People is one of my go to brands for new seasonal pieces as they have the best neutrals that often come in a variety of colors. One of the reasons I LOVE shopping at Nordstrom is their wide variety of brands, like Free People, making them my one stop shop for all things fall! When shopping for fall, I am all about the basics, looking for neutral pieces that can be styled many different ways and layered up!

Chunky Knit Sweaters: I LIVE in cozy sweaters from September to March. I love chunkier knits because I can layer them easily and they are the perfect alternative to a jacket when the weather cools down. This cozy cardi has been my favorite lately! Despite the knit, it’s heavier than expected and will be my go to all fall and winter long!

Comfy T-shirts: I’m all about comfort, and in the fall and winter a t-shirt is often my base layer, so it obviously needs to be comfy! This one comes in 5 colors and I want them all!! Not only is it ridiculously soft, but I adore the key-hole cutout which adds a cool touch that will be perfect peaking from under a sweater or cardi!

Distressed Denim: A great pair of distressed jeans is one of my year round must haves! I absolutely LIVE in this pair, and the best part? They come in multiple washes (see the widget below!) and are under $100! Pair your favorite distressed denim with sandals or mules now and booties and OTK boots when the season changes!

Essential Fall Boots

This time of year, you can usually find a pair of boots on my feet. From booties to rain boots, there is something out there for any type of weather or any occasion in the fall and winter.  However, there are a few pairs I find myself reaching for most frequently. I truly believe there are 4 pairs EVERY girl needs in her wardrobe. Staples that will get you through the chilly months!

Cognac Booties

My cognac booties are my most frequently worn boots. These actually get a lot of wear year round, as I love them with jeans and chunky layered knits in the fall and winter, and with breezy dresses in the spring and summer. They go with EVERYTHING and are so easy to wear. I have a few different styles, including leather and suede, because I wear them so frequently. They can be easily dressed up or down and taken from work to date night!

Riding Boots

A great pair of riding boots never go out of style! I love wearing mine in the fall with dresses and skirts. When it gets REALLY cold, I find myself reaching for my riding boots more frequently as I can wear my favorite thick knit socks underneath and have cozy toes all day. I recommend spending more than you typically would on a pair of shoes when buying riding boots. You want something comfortable and high quality with a classic look, because I promise you will be wearing them for the next few years!

Rain Boots

This fall has been especially rainy and I have been SO thankful for my rain boots! These cuties aren’t just handy when it’s rainy. I frequently pull mine on when heading out to rake the leaves or keep them in my classroom for those days when the weather turns nasty before the end of day bell rings. These also work well in the snow, just make sure to buy the fleece inserts to make sure your feet stay warm!

Over the Knee Boots

This has been one of the hottest trends for a few years now, leading me to believe they are here to stay for at least a few more years! I love the OTK style because they are cute AND keep my legs warm! My favorite way to wear mine is with dresses or with jeans and oversized sweaters. There are so many cute options out right now…I am currently on the hunt for the perfect pair of black OTK boots to add to my wardrobe!

 Is it really already Monday?

I feel like I blink and the weekend is over. I am prepping myself for a crazy week at school as it is the week before Halloween, and my first grader’s have been counting down the days until the 31st. I guess I should feel ecstatic that Halloween falls on a Saturday this year and not mid-week, which always makes for a class full of sugar-filled kiddos all week long.

When I received this top from PB&J Boutique, I fell in love. The bright, ornate details at the top really make this little number a fun piece to wear. I decided to style it simply with jeans, cognac accessories and a floppy hat (of course!), for a day of running errands. This piece could definitely be styled up or down and I have even thought about wearing it for Halloween in a Day of the Dead costume.

Either way, it’s definitely a fun piece to have in my wardrobe, and with the bright colors, something I will be wearing year round!
