Layering for Winter Adventures with Backcountry

Despite being ready for spring, we are trying to fully enjoy and embrace the winter weather. This weekend we got the chance to head up to one of our favorite trails and go snowshoeing. We had the best time seeing it in a new perspective. I stayed warm and toasty on our adventure thanks to my new gear from Backcountry!

I’ve never been the biggest fan of winter as I hate being cold. I have to say though that the right gear changes EVERYTHING. E and I have had this snowshoe date planned for almost a month now and I’ve been really looking forward to it. I even promised him that I would not back out no matter the temps. There was a very real possibility that it could be in the single digits and I knew I had to be prepared.

I ended up spending some time on Backcountry.com and finding everything I would need for our winter outing. They have so many options to choose from for all sorts of winter outdoor activities. They also carry some of my all time favorite brands, from Patagonia and North Face to Free People and Sorel. This makes dressing for a winter adventure effortless, practical and fashionable!

Even though the temps dropped this week, we got lucky and Saturday was beautiful! Despite some rain in the morning, the day cleared up, blue skies were poking through the clouds and it was in the low 40’s. I knew I needed to be practical with my outfit and made sure to really layer up. I even brought this coat just in case, but ended up leaving it in the car.

Snowshoeing is actually a great workout! I ended up shedding layers as we made our way along the trail. My Patagonia Dusty Mesa Parka was the real MVP. It kept me toasty warm until I started working up a sweat. I absolutely love the length of this parka and how warm it is! It’s perfect for layering too, and if I had needed it, I would have easily been able to put it under my down parka. To top it all off, it’s pretty cute too! I love that it’s a practical version of the trendy teddy bear jacket!

Once we really started trekking through the mountains, I was thankful for my base layers. This pullover and fleece lined leggings were comfortable and easy to move in. This Patagonia Micro D Snap-T Fleece Pullover is incredibly soft and light-weight but still very warm. I had just a thin thermal long sleeve under it and felt perfectly content.

The best part about this pullover is the snap collar that allows you to vent if needed, and the binding at the cuffs and hem to seal out any drafts. I always size up to a medium in my Patagonia pullovers for layering purposes. I’m wearing a medium in this one!

I’m convinced that every girl who encounters snow needs a pair of Sorel boots! If you know me, you know I swear by this brand and have multiple pairs. I’ve had the Joan of Arctic boots for 2 years now and LOVE them! I love the height, so snow doesn’t get in the top, and the cute fur detailing. They are sturdy, have great traction and are really very comfortable!

They come in a bunch of different colors and are a timeless boot that you will have for years! I sized up a half size so I could wear thick socks with them!

We rented our snowshoes, but Backcountry has a HUGE selection to choose from! They have a wide variety of colors, price ranges and accessories if you are ready to take on this winter activity. You can even outfit the whole fam!

Another Day, Another Fuzzy Sweater

Blush Turtleneck, more turtleneck sweaters here // Free People Denim // Dolce Vita Booties // Bag, more grey cross body bags here

Another day, another fuzzy sweater. If you saw my post last week, you know I’m currently obsessed with fuzzy sweaters. It’s such a feminine way to stay cozy when the temperature drops!

The moment I saw this blush option, I knew I had to add it to my winter wardrobe, and let me tell you, I am SO glad that I did! This sweater, appropriately named the Dream sweater, is just about the softest thing I have ever worn. I love a good blush piece, and this one is even prettier in person (it also comes in a gorgeous powder blue and chartreuse!). It’s a versatile piece and I’ve already gotten my fair share of wear out of it, pairing it with everything from jeans, overalls, skirts and knotted over dresses.

Have you added a fuzzy sweater to your wardrobe this winter?

My winter break officially starts Friday and I could not be more ready! All I want to do is spend the day in my coziest pjs, wrapped up in a snuggly blanket with a cup of hot cocoa and binge watch Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel. Anybody else feel me? There really is nothing better than being nice and toasty inside when it’s so cold outside! With the holidays looming, the never ending list of errands makes this cozy dream impossible. Leaving my house is inevitable, and while dealing with the frigid temperatures is a given, dressing in comfy cozy pieces makes it more bearable!

When shopping for cozy pieces for around the house AND for going out, I always check the Topshop section at Nordstrom. Not only do they carry the cutest knits and outerwear, but they also have a great selection of cute pj sets and loungewear.

My favorite thing about winter break is spending lazy mornings around the house, before running errands in the afternoon. I love waking up, staying in my pjs and enjoying a cup of coffee while catching up on emails or wrapping presents. Enjoying a lazy morning is not something I get to do during the work week, and I can’t tell you how much I enjoy it! After a lazy morning, I feel refreshed and relaxed and ready to take on the rest of the day! This pj set is one of my current favorites! I love that I can wear it year round and I can’t get enough of the print! Paired with this cozy robe, I am all set for a lazy morning! Both of these pieces would make great Christmas gifts!

When heading out to run errands and get lunch with E (another one of my FAVORITE winter break activities…teachers don’t get to go out to lunch during the work week!), I opt for cozy knits that will keep me warm. While I love layering up, I also love a cute sweater dress. It’s one of my favorite ways to feel comfy and cozy all while feeling cute and put together! This sweater dress is SO warm! It’s made of a thicker knit, so it’s perfect for the winter! Styling tip…pair your sweater dresses with over the knee boots in the winter. It’s a great way to stay warm!
