Layering for Winter Adventures with Backcountry

Despite being ready for spring, we are trying to fully enjoy and embrace the winter weather. This weekend we got the chance to head up to one of our favorite trails and go snowshoeing. We had the best time seeing it in a new perspective. I stayed warm and toasty on our adventure thanks to my new gear from Backcountry!

I’ve never been the biggest fan of winter as I hate being cold. I have to say though that the right gear changes EVERYTHING. E and I have had this snowshoe date planned for almost a month now and I’ve been really looking forward to it. I even promised him that I would not back out no matter the temps. There was a very real possibility that it could be in the single digits and I knew I had to be prepared.

I ended up spending some time on Backcountry.com and finding everything I would need for our winter outing. They have so many options to choose from for all sorts of winter outdoor activities. They also carry some of my all time favorite brands, from Patagonia and North Face to Free People and Sorel. This makes dressing for a winter adventure effortless, practical and fashionable!

Even though the temps dropped this week, we got lucky and Saturday was beautiful! Despite some rain in the morning, the day cleared up, blue skies were poking through the clouds and it was in the low 40’s. I knew I needed to be practical with my outfit and made sure to really layer up. I even brought this coat just in case, but ended up leaving it in the car.

Snowshoeing is actually a great workout! I ended up shedding layers as we made our way along the trail. My Patagonia Dusty Mesa Parka was the real MVP. It kept me toasty warm until I started working up a sweat. I absolutely love the length of this parka and how warm it is! It’s perfect for layering too, and if I had needed it, I would have easily been able to put it under my down parka. To top it all off, it’s pretty cute too! I love that it’s a practical version of the trendy teddy bear jacket!

Once we really started trekking through the mountains, I was thankful for my base layers. This pullover and fleece lined leggings were comfortable and easy to move in. This Patagonia Micro D Snap-T Fleece Pullover is incredibly soft and light-weight but still very warm. I had just a thin thermal long sleeve under it and felt perfectly content.

The best part about this pullover is the snap collar that allows you to vent if needed, and the binding at the cuffs and hem to seal out any drafts. I always size up to a medium in my Patagonia pullovers for layering purposes. I’m wearing a medium in this one!

I’m convinced that every girl who encounters snow needs a pair of Sorel boots! If you know me, you know I swear by this brand and have multiple pairs. I’ve had the Joan of Arctic boots for 2 years now and LOVE them! I love the height, so snow doesn’t get in the top, and the cute fur detailing. They are sturdy, have great traction and are really very comfortable!

They come in a bunch of different colors and are a timeless boot that you will have for years! I sized up a half size so I could wear thick socks with them!

We rented our snowshoes, but Backcountry has a HUGE selection to choose from! They have a wide variety of colors, price ranges and accessories if you are ready to take on this winter activity. You can even outfit the whole fam!

Dress (Size: Small // Price: $ ): This dress is SO sweet! I was drawn to the flirty fit and the detailing. It’s even prettier in person! From the ruffle sleeves and hem to the sweet pom detailing, this dress makes a statement without being over the top! I love the neutral color too that looks good on any skin tone! This is a dress that you can definitely wear year round!

Cream Cozy Up Cardigan (Size: Small // Price: $55 ): This cardigan is an absolute DREAM! It is incredibly soft! It’s made of chenille, so it feels like you are wrapped up in a cozy blanket. This is a piece that can be dressed up or down. It’s super warm too, so perfect for chilly winter days!

Darling Tee (Size: Small // Price: $24): The sweetest little tee! I love the embroidery detailing and the slightly cropped fit. I am wearing a small, but suggest sizing up if you would like it to run a little more oversized! This is one of those tees that you will be wearing year round!

Everyday Striped Long Sleeve Tunic (Size: Small // Price: $34): This top reminds me of something from Free People. I absolutely adore the stripe color combo and the oversized sleeves. It’s soft and comfy and perfect for wearing out or lounging. It was the very first piece to sell out…check back for a restock!

Ivory Long Sleeve Button Up (Size: Small // Price: $34): You can’t go wrong with a button up henley top! I wear these year round and this one is a real winner. Although it is described as ivory, I would say it gives off some hints of blush. It’s super warm and I love the slightly cropped swing fit.

Blue Keyhole Blouse (Size: Small // Price: $48): This top is another favorite. I thought this top would be perfect for the classroom! I love the keyhole and pom pom detailing that adds such a fun touch. Wear it with black denim and loafers and jeans and booties.

On my List Oversized Sweater (Size: Small // Price: $48): This sweater is probably the most versatile in the collection. It can be worn on or off the shoulder and is long enough to wear with leggings. I love the chunky fit (it’s seriously so soft!) and the ribbing. I’ve worn this with leggings, tucked into jeans and with a full length sequin midi skirt (see here).

Winter Storm Plaid Cardigan (Size: S/M // Price: $48): I love a good plaid cardi and this one is too cute! I haven’t seen this color combo and think it’s perfect for winter. It’s a great layering piece and is one that can be dressed up or down. I can’t wait to wear this in the classroom!

Mocha Cropped Sweater (Size: S/M // Price: $48): This sweater is a closet classic. I feel like it can be styled a million different ways! It’s slightly cropped, but the perfect length for tucking in or wearing with skirts! I love the chunky knit and the oversized sleeves.

Color Me Striped Sweater (Size: S/M // Price: $54): This sweater is my favorite! I am obsessed with the color combo and bright stripes. It’s just what you need in the darkest days of winter to brighten things up! It’s super soft and I love the oversized sleeves. Size up if you want a more oversized look to wear with leggings!

Weekends. Coffee. & Dogs. Tee (Size: Small // Price: $26): If this tee doesn’t describe a perfect weekend, then I don’t know what does! I love the oversized fit of this tee and that it is long enough to wear with leggings! It is SO soft and the color goes with everything. This tee sold out pretty fast…stay tuned for a restock!

Holiday to Everyday Winter Style

Christmas is just a week away! Can you even believe it? I’ve been feeling extra festive lately and dressing for the season. Pops of red and green and a festive plaid go a long way in adding a little cheer to your holiday wardrobe! Today I am sharing 3 looks that can go from the holidays to everyday winter style from Topshop at Nordstrom!

Outfit 1: Crewneck Sweater // Tartan Scarf // Joni High Waist Skinny Jeans (size up 1!) // Combat Boots // Bag

Outfit 2: Turtleneck Sweater Dress // Knee High Boots // Bag

Outfit 3: Ladder Stitch Cross Sweater // Faux Leather Mini (also love this one!) // Bag // Heels

This time of year, I am all about adding a little Christmas to my outfits (check out my thoughts here)! The problem is, I really don’t want to invest in festive pieces that I will only wear 1 month out of the year. I shop for pieces that I can dress up for the holidays and then incorporate into my winter style for the rest of the season. Cute but cozy classics, like sweaters, are my go to! I love a piece that can be dressed up or down and worn all season long!

When it comes to updating my wardrobe each season, I always score the best finds with Topshop at Nordstrom! They carry some great closet classics, but always put a unique spin on them! I also love their on trend pieces that are easy to wear but still make a statement! One of the reasons I love shopping at Nordstrom, is because they carry the brands I love, like Topshop. It’s always easy to find what I am looking for!

This season, I’ve been big into sweaters. From chunky knits to sweater dresses, there’s nothing cozier! A classic pullover is always one of my must haves! I love the rib knit of this one and the neutral shade. It goes with everything and is easy to dress up or down. I’ve been pairing it with a pop of plaid for that festive touch, but will be wearing it well into spring!

My favorite find this year has been this sweater dress! I’ve worn it to work and casually on the weekend. It’s super comfy and a closet staple. Dress it up with heels or boots, or pair it with leggings and sneakers for a comfy winter ootd.

Every year I have to buy at least one red piece. I love the color of this sweater. It’s more of an orange-y red, but still looks festive! Dress it up by pairing it with a skirt or pair it with some denim for a more laidback look.

Need your order in time for Christmas? No worries! Get your order by Christmas Eve if you order before the noon EST on the 22nd. While some items are ineligible, Nordstrom has TONS of items that are!
