Every girl needs a few comfy dresses in her wardrobe. They are the perfect pieces for days when you don’t feel like thinking about what you are wearing, but you want to look cute. They are easy to accessorize and can be made into a million different outfits by simply changing up shoes, jackets, and jewelry.
This recent Forever 21 purchase of mine is one of my favorites. I love that it is super comfortable, has a flattering fit, and a high-low hemline which allows me to spend time outside without the worry of the wind blowing up my skirt (you all know what I’m talking about!). I paired it with my favorite combat boots, a jean jacket, and a pretty necklace for a night out with friends. We actually ended up bowling, which had I known, I probably would have worn something else, but this dress was easy enough to move around in (and looked super fantastic with bowling shoes).

As for my hair, I love rocking a top knot. It’s not always super flattering, but it’s a quick fix for when I’m in a hurry and is perfect for keeping my hair out of my face. I actually end up wearing it like this to work often, which has caused for some very fantastic comments from students. One of my favorites? “You look like a Disney Princess!” Probably not…but I’ll take it!
The best comparison yet, happened in a second grade classroom, while I was teaching a lesson on sea life and oil spills.

Me: “So, when oil spills happen in the ocean, it makes sea creatures very sick. Whales and dolphins often die because the oil gets in their blow holes so they cannot breathe.”

Student: “HEY!”

Me: “Yes?!” (Waiting for an insightful comment about this dire situation).

Student: “Your hot cross bun looks like a blow hole today!!!!!!!!!!” (Ridiculously excited by this observation/comparison).

Rest of class: “Yeah!!!” “It DOES!!!” “Sometimes my cousin wears her hair in two hot cross buns like that!!”

Me: “Well…thank you! That’s a great comparison! Now moving on…”

(All the while trying desperately not to explode with laughter).

Yes. Thats right. My bun, or my “hot cross bun” was compared to a blow hole. Your pretty jealous, aren’t you?

hahahah your hot cross buns, eh? I think you're a pretty hot cross bun, Ashley, if you get what I'm sayin' wink wink ;D but seriously, comparing your hair to blowholes, that's hilarious. Your students are a riot!

I'm seriously loving this whole outfit though from head to toe. Those boots, your dress, that really rad necklace that reminds me of the Egyptians for whatever reason… all so awesome!!

PS) omg omg I feel the same way WE ARE TOTALLY INTERNET BESTIES and it's a shame teleporters don't exist so I can't just poof up there and see you ๐Ÿ™ shame shame! but at least we have blogging, and that is better than nothing. <3 YOU ARE SO SWEET AND I ADORE YOU OK

I hopped over from the lovely Ali's blog. Ooooh… You are a teacher. Your students must have love you a lot. I used to teach too and I love all the darn and cute things that my students say. How cute of them to comment about your bun as a blowhole. They were obviously enthralled by your hair instead of whales being sick. Hehehe.

The dress is really versatile. It is plain yet with texture and flow in the skirt part. It could definitely be a basic dress jazzed up with denim, lace etc for different styles.

  10. June 17, 2013 / 6:57 pm

A blowhole…omgsh, I cannot stop laughing right now! xD BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Those kids were so cute. How observant of them.
I wear my hair up in a topknot a lot for work too, although most of the time people ignore that hairstyle. Instead, they comment on my jewelry half the time. ๐Ÿ˜›
Anyway, this dress is definitely a perfect option to just toss on and style up however you want. I love how Cali-cool you are with your combat boots, denim jacket, and beautiful necklace.

Love how easy that Forever21 dress is – and most importantly I love that it's not see-through, as so many of those inexpensive Forever dresses are!

I'm wearing my Steve Madden Troopa boots RIGHT NOW!!!
So clearly I need to run to Forever 21 and pick up that dress!

It seriously looks so comfortable. I love the idea of a high-low comfy dress…I usually only see fancier chiffon high-low dresses. You found the perfect combination!!
